    Default Note to self!

At -10F, it does not take long for water to freeze!

Friday night we had a "gas leak" at a care center. Engine Co. was handling it, so we staged. We had only been sitting there for about 10 minutes when I remembered that I had not put the pump in gear to keep the water from freezing. I put her in gear, get out and open the necessary valves, and the pressure gauge goes nowhere! Ah crap, she's frooze! Bump up the engine speed, and I can hear water starting to move. Thank god, I thought to myself. We were released, so I get out to shut everything down, the output pressure gauge had froze.

    Just remember that!

A couple years ago we had a brush fire in October, a little snow on the ground. Pulled out the the heated bay drove a mile to the fire, the nozzles we all frozen shut. We had drained the pump, so there was no damage, we just had to let it sit in the sun for a while to thaw the nozzles and valves. Good thing it was all mop up, and we could use the snow.
