Alright, now is your time to sound off...
Sometime in May or June I will be moving to Joplin, MO. so that my wife can begin her Internal Medicine residency at Freeman Hospital. I'm looking for two things. First, a good EMS service that treats people right (as much as possible, it is EMS after all :P) and lastly, a good VFD. I realize that you may not want to post your honest opinion for all to see. So, if you have one to recommend or one to warn me about, feel free to contact me off line.
Thanks,
reeveo

Hey Reeveo
Welcome To Joplin. There Are Several Vfd's Surrounding Joplin. Depending On Where You Are Going To Live, Will Mostly Determine Which Department You Should Seek. The List Includes: Carl Junction Fire Department (large Fire District With 4 Stations And Busy) North And West Of Joplin. Duenweg Fire Dept. (1 Main Station ,but Busy) East Of Joplin. Oronogo Fire Dept.(2 Stations) North And East Of Joplin. Redings Mill Fire Dept. (large District With 5 Stations And Busy). As Far As Ems, There Is Mets (metropolitan Emergency Transport System) In Joplin, High Volume 911 System, Joplin Has Daytime Population Of Approx. 250,ooo People, Not Including The Rural Area's Served. Look At Metsambulance.com. There Is Newton County Ems To The South Of Joplin, And Carthage Ems (hospital Based) To The East. Hope This Info Helps.

Drop me an e-mail or a PM and I can let you in on a few details. Part of it will depend of course on what direction and how far from Joplin you're looking.

I grew up in Joplin in the neighborhood directly behind Freeman Hospital. I went to medic school at MSSU and did my ride time with METS. My grandfather was a FF for JFD in the 1950's, so I know a little about the area LOL! Although I did move away about 10 years ago, my parents still live there and I am there quite a bit.
METS (Joplin EMS) has a good reputation (as far as I can remember), there was a Newton County EMS station about 1 block from my house right behind Freeman's ER, you might check them out as well, good outfit from what I remember.
I know JFD is a solid FD, not too familiar with any VFD's around, but I know Carl Junction is fairly large, Reddings Mill VFD is just south of Joplin, Duneweg is just East of town. You shouldn't have a hard time finding a good VFD to join.
Good luck, I lived there for almost 20 years, it's quite and the pace is slower, but it is a good place to live and smell the roses...or whatever you like to smell LOL.Last edited by FHandz15; 03-11-2006 at 09:38 PM.

Bump! The Clock is Ticking...
Last chance to sound off before we move at the end of this month. I'd like to hit the ground running and not waste much time spinning my wheels after we get settled in Joplin.
What VFDs would you recommend?
Thanks for any more feedback and as always...
