His story gained national attention, when last year, injured Buffalo Firefighter Don Herbert awoke from a 9-year long coma. His recovery was considered by many to be a miracle. After developing pneumonia a few days ago, Don Herbert passed away early this morning.
In 1995, Herbert was fighting a fire when the roof caved in and trapped him in a stairwell.
Herbert's injuries were severe and he was left in a coma.
Last year, Herbert awoke from a coma after being given a new round of medication. He was talking with his family and friends.
Late last night, Buffalo firefighters got word that Herbert was fighting pnuemonia and that he wasn't doing well. Herbert died at 1:45 Tuesday morning.
