Where the largest dept. that is a member of the ASFFA, they are the largest firefighters asso. in the state. Thought I saw your chief there last year?

Batesville New Truck
The City of Batesville took delivery of a new 104' Tower truck
Rosenbauer.
Thanks to the citizens of Batesville for passing the 1/8 cent sales tax to make this possible.

What is wrong with being a member of asffa? We are glad to have Pine Bluff i wish all firefighters in the state would become members. Could you see how strong we could be as one voice. The state would hear us loud and clear then. Right now when we talk to the politicians they hear us but they see us also. They see us as a bunch that cant get on the same page. Lets get in one unified group and see what we can do. We are all part of the firefighter family volunteers are just as proud as paid. Volunteers risk our life just like paid firefighters. Volunteers just dont get the pay or benifits paid firefighters do. Volunteers are on call 24 7, paid are on duty 24 and then get to go home for a couple of shifts. We are the same we all put our turnouts on the same way. Lets work together.

Absolutely nothing. I've been a member in the past. I'd be a member now but my department doesn't participate. I'm not sure why... I find it especially odd since our chief is a member of the state chief's association (which is sort of a sister to the ASFFA).
Career and volunteer are both important and both have their place -- especially in a rural state like Arkansas. But please don't suggest that volunteer firefighters are always on duty.
I've been a volunteer myself. There were times when I was out of town... Or maybe had a beer with friends... Or I was sick... Or there was some reason that I couldn't respond if the pager had gone off. The same must be true for you. You can't always be available and to suggest that you are isn't fair.
Also, don't paint vollie/career with such a broad brush. In many smaller departments, the off-duty career firefighters are recalled for working fires right alongside the volunteers.

Cosmosis you can join. Your department dont have to be involved. We would like them to be but you can join by yourself. If some of your coworkers want you can get together and do it. As for the rest i have missed 2 out of 61 calls the ones i missed was because the ambulance was going to be there before me so i let the other guys closer handle it.

purty pitchers
Nice vehicles. When I did the AFG application for my rural, all volunteer department, the average age of our vehicles turned out to be over 21 years old.
It would be nice to see some newer NFPA-compliant equipment.
