Ok, I'll cut you a little slack for being new here. www.911hotjobs is one place to start, and I noticed at least 3 current postings with 2 dozen that could still be active. Noone here is going to hand you a job, though -- you have to go find it. Get some face time in the area departments around you, and ask questions about their departments & if they or others will be hiring anytime soon.

    kghemtp,
I understand that no one will "hand me" a job. That's not what I asked for. I asked for any departments that are hiring. I am looking for places around the country. I have no idea of the names of counties in a lot of different states.
    Thanks for the link.

Tallahassee is hiring. You must be an EMT or Paramedic.

Hi FMChic3, I work for Indian River County Florida. Its between Palm beach and Orlando. We have 11 stations with more in the near future. We will be hiring but you must be a FirefighterParamedic. Florida is very anal on requirements from people from other states. You might be able to challenge the state test but I'm not sure you need to contact them. We start at $42K a year plus 6K for Paramedic. Here's there website.

Default Just got back from Florida

Love the state, and all the FD's i stoped in were real nice. Loved to see how advanced they were in EMS and rescue. But dident find many FD's that were hiring folks with no fire training. Even when i look around on the web, all i see is "Must be EMT or Medic" and "Must have Firefighter 1". Please tell me why this is. Ive also looked at the pay. Really thought it would be more.

Many departments want a certain minimum of qualifications for a couple reasons: less costly to train fully, people have at least SOME experience/background from going through the programs, and training shows dedication. Also, in a field with SO many applicants for a single job, this is an easy way to cut the list down significantly. Can this eliminate some of the best individuals for a job? Absolutely, but it's just another tool of hiring
