Pilot Spots Fire From Above
Officials credit a pilot for helping prevent a fire in Ohio County from spreading out of control.
Officers say a man flying by spotted the fire from his plane and called in for help. Once the problem was detected, firefighters had to find out exactly where the fire was coming from. Firefighters searched through the windy roads of Clearview, Ohio County, and came across a fire quickly spreading.
The fire chief said the problem may have started in a wood pile. The chief said the wind fueled the blaze, engulfing nearby cars and spreading into the woods.
Firefighters' biggest concern was to stop the fire from spreading to a nearby home. The home's remote location made it tough for firefighters to get the water they needed. Seven departments worked together to bring the water to the site.
The owners of the property were not home at the time, which is why the blaze was not discovered sooner.
No one was injured.
