    Default Can You Say Whacker?

Man Charged With Impersonating Officer Suspect Faces Multiple Charges

    POSTED: 11:45 am EST March 7, 2006
    UPDATED: 12:01 pm EST March 7, 2006

CROFTON, Md. -- A man from Crofton, Md., has been arrested on several counts, including impersonating a police officer.

    Slideshow: Recovered Evidence www.nbc4.com/news/7778395/detail.html

Anne Arundel County police said Karl Salenieks was arrested on Sunday.

Salenieks had been working as an armed security guard at the Weiss grocery store in Odenton, Md.

Police said officers spotted Salenieks driving an unmarked Ford Crown Victoria last month with red and blue police lights.

However when investigators checked into his background, they discovered Salenieks was a convicted felon and ineligible to carry or own a handgun.

He's also been charged with three counts of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, transporting or carrying a handgun in a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of an electronic weapon (Taser gun) and giving a false statement to a peace officer.

At least the fire whackers do not carry guns.

Does Maryland require a permit to carry a firearm as part of your job? In CT, you can have a concealed weapons permit, but must also get a permit if your job requires you to carry a handgun.

In a way, it is the standard from which all other wackers should be measured.

Malahat, this guy's got more problems than being a police whacker.

He's a felon in possession of a firearm. That is worth 3 or so years in the federal pen.

Obviously, the security company that employed him was a little lax in the background check department.

Yes. And, you are required to have a certain amount of Training before you can legally carry. That's the level for people like store owners who want protection as they go to the bank, etc. To work in the Security field, you need the Firearms Training, along with Course work in certain Law Enforcement areas. This, in turn, gets you a Commission from the State as a "Special Officer", with enforcement powers on the premises of your employer.
