The County of Franklin (50,000 pop.) is currently accepting applications for the Director of Public Safety. The successful applicant will perform complex administrative and operational work in developing, directing, and implementing a comprehensive combination Career and Volunteer Public Safety program for the County as well as acting as an incident commander and emergency operations group chief, as necessary. The County’s System is built around supporting the volunteer fire and EMS providers and this position is critical in establishing a supportive environment for this philosophy. This position is responsible for Animal Control, Emergency Management, Fire Marshall’s Office, Training/Volunteer Recruitment and Retention and Emergency response for both EMS and Fire Suppression.

The successful applicant will possess any combination of education and experience equivalent to a four year degree in Public Administration, Fire Science, Business Administration, and advanced education in the Fire and Rescue field. Extensive experience in hazardous materials, enhanced 9-1-1 operations, FEMA regulations, EMS delivery, and departmental management including budgeting and previous staff supervision experience is required. Minimum 3 years of experience as a Public Safety Division, Deputy, or Department Head is preferred.
