Received a question about the electrical systems and how they tie into the airbag circuits. The question was... "Does disconnecting the 12volt system disable the airbag and supplemental restraints on Hybrid and/or standard vehicles?"
the answer is yes. Shutting down the 12v system on conventional vehicles or hybrids begins to drain the airbag capacitor system powered by the 12v battery. Seatbelt pretensioners are connected into this power circuit as well.
On a hybrid, airbag deployment shuts off the high voltage at the HV battery pack. Turning off the ignition key or disconnecting the 12v battery does this also.
