I have always used a modern style helmet, Bullard PX to be specific. I was recently given the choice of a traditional style helmet for a birthday present. As far as Fiberglass/plastic helmets, does anyone have a brand preference? I am specifically concerned with weight.

I would go with the cairns 1044. I have one and it fits great and weighs just about the same as any of the moderns as far as I can tell.

you might want to watch out with the 1044 because I was talking to a guy who's department switched to them and they had a few fall from a short distance and the back brim broke completely off.
It could have been those helmets or possibly a bad batch but it's something to think about you might also want to look at Paul Conway helmets.
