    Default Communications for Everyone?

In doing a regional (county-wide) communications grant to totally overhaul (upgrade) our communications and get everyone on the same page can we include law enforcement in this? Can Law Enforcement benefit from a FireAct grant under interoperable communications?

    Thanks!

They can benefit from the infrastructure (repeaters, dispatch systems if that is their current job) but they have to buy their own radios. Everyone involved in AFG has to be an eligible applicant on their own, so only Fire, Rescue, and EMS agencies can be a part of regional.

Brian is right. As it happens, law enforcment has typically been able to take advantge of other grant programs, like SHSGP, and laid out infrastructure such as repeaters and towers etc. and many FDs can take advantage of that in building a regional interoperable communications program.

No reason that the tables cannot be turned and our brothers in law enforcment come in on the backside of this, as we have with them in a lot of occassions. I would venture to say that this should be mentioned in your narrative as an added cost benefit.
