    Default Cops

Yesterday my wife and I were watching COPS, this Officer gets dispatched with the information that there was a home on fire. He instantly gets excited and I tell my wife "Uh oh, this guy is way to amped". Well this officer responds and shows up to this house with flames behind it. He jumps out and starts pounding on the door screaming for the inhabitants to leave. When he gets no answer he starts smashing out the windows on the pourch. The windows were MAYBE 8 inches tall by 12 inches wide and he smashes out about 5 or 6 of them. Well finally he gets a response when this terrified elderly lady opens the door. He starts screaming at her to get out of the house because it is on fire. I start laughing and my wife askes me "What?!". I answer her "You'll see". This officer was pratically vibrating because he was so amped up. He starts walking around real quick inside the house looking for fire while the lady goes for her night gown, the whole time yelling "you got to hurry! Your house is burning down, there are flames comming out of the roof!". Well he finally manages to rescue this poor lady and once he gets her outside they both look behind them only to realize that it was her neighbors house that was on fire, not hers. I laughed hard but I felt bad for this cop, his heart was in the right place but he was so amped that he just didn't pay quiet enough attention. The worst part though was when the cop was trying to explain to his surpervisor why he smashed the windows, his supervisors answer was "And just how you planning on pulling this nice little lady out of that small opening?".

This is a prime example of why erasers were invented.

    pkfd7505 ...

If we ever made light the number of times we as firefighters forced entry into an unlocked home, or the wrong apartment, or even responded to the wrong address because of a similar sounding street names, we all would have died a thousand embarrassing deaths.

Very true Gonzo, I really had no intention of "bashing" the guy as George eludes too, it was just really bad luck for this guy that this happened on national TV. That is why I made the comments "I felt bad for this cop" and "his heart was in the right place". I simply felt that this was a funny mistake, as are many of the mistakes that I myself have made. I am the butt of more then one joke around my station due to mistakes that I have made.

Sorry if the post appeared to be a bashing, but it was meant to provoke a chuckle, not a flame war. George I'm sorry I provoked your "DO A SEARCH!" wrath.

Geesh people, lighten up, things seem to be getting really tense around this forum.

I'm just glad it was a cop and not a firefighter.

No, there would have to be a COPS-like show following firefighters around for us to see embarassing FF moments on TV....and of course, those kinds of shows don't seem to stick around long....

"I have a dream. It's not a big dream, it's just a little dream. My dream and I hope you don't find this too crazy is that I would like the people of this community to feel that if, God forbid, there were a fire, calling the fire department would actually be a wise thing to do. You can't have people, if their houses are burning down, saying, 'Whatever you do, don't call the fire department!' That would be bad."

Yeah, because destroying a firehouse door by cutting out the silhouette of a person to make it look like someone ran through it as seen on Firehouse USA was quality TV.

It was a Cop? Damn............. Oh Well, time to get on with life...........

I was on a medical call a couple of years ago where we forced entry into the wrong house, Because the person calling 911 gave the wrong address. I was present at a Fire one day when the 3rd arriving Engine pulled up to lay a supply line from a Hydrant. Guy jumps out of the cab, runs around back, starts yelling "Where's the hose? Where's the hose?" The hose was laid out in the street somewhere between the station and the Fire, that's where the hose was.......

Speaking of the Firehouse USA show, what was the reason if one was given for the show being cancelled?

We had a local department lose a load of LDH hose. They dumped 1200 ft in the middle lane of the highway. The department basically did a full assignment page for "traffic control" to help get the hose out of the road.

If this was a rerun of COPS this incident occurred in Fort Worth and the officer ended up paying for the windows. Nuff said

That was funny, but if I remember correctly he paid for the door out of his own pocket.
