New Civil Service FD hires in Massachusetts from the 1990's on cannot use tobacco products. Part of the application and testing process is signing the form stating that you do not use tobacco products. If one is caught using them, they can be terminated. It has happened here in Massachusetts.

If it is part of the hiring process or collective bargaining agreement, they have a choice to make... smoke, snuff, chew tobacco or keep the job!

I can't tell you, as I don't know. I am a non smoker, so it doesn't affect me in any way!

I guess were still living in the past. We still smoke and dip. Even at the fires. I dont really see anything wronge with it. I dont smoke or dip. Are city passed a law last year about smoking in public buildings. So the guys just go outside. But you can still dip indoors.

Before you are even hired into my department you have to sign a form stating how you will not use any tabacco products on or off duty....been this way since like 1995 or so.....I believe it was secondary to the heart and lung bill passed by congress...

I might be off here, but I think many anti-tobacco rules are tied into the cancer presumption bills which have been passed in some places.
