New Nest for the Eagles & Condors !
American LaFrance expects to be going public with an announcement of site selection and architect choice for a brand new 350,000-square-foot manufacturing plant near Charleston, S.C.
ALF has a lease from Freightliner on its present facility into mid-2007, but CEO John Stevenson expects to move into the new plant long before that. Three different sites are under consideration as this is written and the new ALF owner, Lynn Tilton, head of Patriarch Partners, Llc. investment firm, has given the go-ahead for the project.
Stevenson, whose background with Freightliner was in chassis and vehicle manufacturing, will play a key role in the design and layout. He’s enthusiastic — as are all the employees at the ALF headquarters — that the company found good potential locations within a 20-mile radius of the present plant.
This means the skilled workforce won’t have to relocate and moving to a new plant should not interrupt fire apparatus production as happened when Freightliner moved operations to South Carolina three years ago.
