Angry Question for any NYS Fire Instructors

Can a NYS Fire Instructor issue himself a NYS certificate for a course that they are the lead instructor on? I know of a NYS FI that has issued himself a NYS FFI certificate at the completion of the class he just taught. The students had to take tests and perform evolutions, he just presented the information. I don't feel he should be credited with a certificate (signed by him as instructor) for not doing the hands on work that the students had to.

    Default SFI's

In order for an SFI/CFI/MFI/MTO to be able to teach a course, they have to be certified in the course first or have the equivalents.

I agree, and this instructor has the equivalents. He had Basic and Intermediate FF. Now he has issued himself a FFI certificate after he taught the class. It seems any instructor would have to be taught by another instructor and actually actively participate in the class to receive credit. Self certification seems very inappropriate and doesn't seem legal. I have emailed both the OFPC and the DOS training division, but have not received answers from them.

I agree, he probably shouldn't have signed his own card. Especially if he didn't perform the skills as required. A second instructor could have signed off his skills. I'd be interedted to know what you find out from OFPC. Please post it here or PM me with the info.

You get Certified to tech the FF Series. That Shows up on your state printout. Maybe it was a Joke. He or she would have no reason to have it. the teaching cert far out weighs the Attendence Cert.

Before any State Instructor can teach the course they have to be certified to teach the course, this is done at the State Fire Academy during the Fire Instructors conference.
