    Default Matching Funds

How do the matching funds work?

    A. Do you pay the 10%/30% of the total purchase price.

    B. Do spend the 10%/30% of the grant amount recieved on additional equipment or training.

example: You ask for PPE worth $20,000, do you get $18,000 or $20,000 and then spend $2,000 on something else.

Assuming your "match" is 10%, and your proposed project is a total of $20,000 the breakdown under the AFG program would be:

    Project budget= $20,000
    Federal share= $18,000 (90% of the project)
    Local share= $2,000 (10% match)

    Hope this helps. Good luck

If your total project requested is $20,000, then if you are awarded the grant you will get $18,000 from them. I guess you could say they just "short" you what your matching portion is. If your project truly is $20,000 then you will have to put that $2000 from your department's pocket to pay for the project.

Is your total grant request for $20,000? Or is that just one portion of it? With a request that small, they may figure that it is a project that your department can afford to fund on its own and it is too small to need help funding it. You may want to look into beefing it up a little. Just my opinion though....

Our annual budget it $35,000. We are asking for 14 sets of bunker gear @ $1,800 each and about $7,000 in training materials so around $32,000 for the grant. Do you think we should add extrication equipment to the request, we currenty do not have any hydraulic tools for extrication. The only down fall is that our call volume is very low and we do not get paged for auto accidents unless requested by the ambulance. We do not even have documented calls requiring extrication. Do you think we need to ask for more money?

    Thanks

You are asking for 14 sets of turnouts, is this Hat, Coat, Boot, Pant, Suspender, Hood & Gloves?

How many members do you have on your department; remember the questions on the Electronic app: what percentage of your dept currently has compliant gear, and if awarded what percentage will have gear.

The idea here is to outfit everyone on the department, otherwise you get caught in that cycle of never having 100%.

I would not ask for the Extricat. equip because lower priority items will lower your overall score.

    Hope that helps......

They only replace non-compliant equipment. So if you are trying to replace sets that are 3-5 years old then your answer for the age of the equipment has to be 3-5 years old. Unless you have really extreme circumstances you should have some sets that are compliant, in which case you should score the extra points and admit that you have some sets so you only want to replace those over 10+ years old.

We have 20 members. Six sets of complete bunker gear that are 2000 and newer. The rest of the bunker gear is from a big mix of donated gear. All that gear is dated 1991. We are asking for full sets for fourteen set so 100% of the volunteers have complete turnout.
