Can anyone point me in the right direction for online articles or studies that have been written or done to support 4 person engine companies or 3 person medical rescue companies? Anything will help.
Thanks,

Try going through your state organization, they will probably have something, if not check with your district rep

I had a guy send me a link to a great article about 1710 that lists the studies they used for engine company staffing. I have emailed the NFPA and requested copies of them. Thanks for the reply.

This local has put together a really good web presentation of manning issues.
Check out "How your FD compares" and "Capability analysis". Hope this helps.

Battalion, are you in an IAFF Local? The IAFF has a CD full of all the information you could possibly need on NFPA 1710 and trying to get your empoyer to adopt it

The IAFF may well have a volume of information on 1710, but I would not count on their help with your staffing issues. I have seen first hand the “tough talk” that comes from the international about staffing, but the reality is simple; the international is a bunch of “non-action” when called upon for assistance in a fight to preserve union jobs.

I won’t disagree with your statement; in your experience, this may well be the case. However, I am talking about my own personal experience. Unfortunately, that is a different story that yours probably is. As we speak, or type, the international has turned its back on our fight to maintain staffing, and to keep union jobs. Overall, the IAFF has made it extremely difficult for many of us to continue to take pride in our required membership. It has been my personal experience that that is totally untrue
