I've heard online about a furniture store fire in Omaha, Illinois. Sounds like several exposures, including the post office, have been lost, and the FD ran the water supply dry. Anyone have details?

I talked to someone today while were doing pre-fires that mentioned something about it too. Apparantly that furniture store was about all Omaha had! Here's the story I found on it.

I am about 40 miles away and heard the initial tone out and most of the fire (have a great antenna on my house for my scanner) Tonight on the local news they said the store was open today and they would rebuild, looks like what burnt was thier warehouse and 2 showrooms but the main showroom and office was across the street. They drained the towns water tower in 20 Minutes the omaha fire chief said.
and yea you are right the furniture store is about all the town had
We did not get called but would have been the next area over to get tankers from after they called Carrier mills and Galatia

I am the fire chief in Omaha. We had around 23 departments on scene that day. There was several exposure, one was our firehouse. It is located north, across the street from the furniture store, the sind was out of the south. We did use all the water in the tower, and with the quick thinking of New Haven fire chief D.J. McGuire, we set up a water shuttle. We had at least 20 tanker and hauled about 500,000 gallons of water. The furniture store is not the only business, but is a large source of our revenue. If you want more details or pictures, please e-mail me.
