    Default The Question

Well, good luck to everybody. The question, when will the first round come out and if you do get the grant, how long is it until you find out?

I'm gonna guess July 28, 2006 for the first round with the "10 questions" and 1199's starting around July 15.

Wishful thinking to get the party started that early, other guesses???

Last year we got our 10 ?'s around the first week of June and were awarded in the first round on August 19th. I think some departments got there 10 ?'s in May . . . hopefully they will start that early again this year.

k3twpfire posted the following dates for peer review:

    Panel Review 2006

    April 24-28 = Evaluation Group 1
    May 1-5 = Evaluation Group 2
    May 8-12 = Evaluation Group 3
The first indication to a potential award is the "10 questions". Though it is not a guarantee, from past experience when we recived the questions we were awarded a grant.

Once you return the questions there is no set time frame that you will be notified of your success. It could be a week after (we were awarded round 2 last year after recieving the questions the week prior), a month or even longer. It is a wait and see what happens game.

It's amazing to me that the Peer Review process is only 3 weeks. What a massive undertaking in such a short time. How many volunteers serve each week? I'm feeling a little guilty for going 4 pages!!

Can't remember how many they say show up. Over 100, think it's somewhere closer to 200.

4 pages Earl? Man, haven't done that in years. 2 pages at 12pt font, .5" margins, and out. Any longer than than 3 and you either have too many things in the list, or you're risking contradiction of reasoning. The more time you give them to read the more time they have to think of questions you haven't answered.

Aw, geez Brian. It's been a long day and a long week already. Statements like that aren't gonna help me sleep!!

Margins in my word file were at 1.25. Moved to .5" and it's light on 4. I feel a little better. I truly tried to stay light, probably spent too much time talking about the '74 brush truck we are seeking to replace. It was by far the greatest need we had, and it's a big one.

Anyway, i'm grateful for the 500 to 600 folks who give up a week to read what must be around 9000 or so narratives. I'd guess that they each read around 200 in a week--i got loopy just reading 5 or 6 in Kurt's seminar. God bless 'em for what they do!!

Someone has to keep you nervous for 4 months. Can't take the fun out of it and let you relax or anything can we?

I know this might sound funny, but although I've written the grant for our dept. for four years I still don't understand how the peer review system works, and what goes on during the review?

Anyone with first hand knowledge care to expound on it?

Thanks Vickers!! Quick medical question--can i take Maalox at the same time as Metamucel??

Weez--i had half a mind to volunteer as a reviewer to go through the experience first hand, but could see that i couldn't do it this year. I may do it next year. It'd be great to learn the process from the inside, awesome to give something back, and it might give me better writing skills--so i can get down to TWO PAGES.

Hope we hear from somebody who's been there.

The pharmacist comes out from the back to check on the new cashier, and asks him "What did you just tell Mr Johnson to take for his cough?"

"I told him to take a half a box of Ex-Lax." says Tim.

"Half a box of Ex-Lax?!! That's not going to help his cough!"

"Sure it is. Look at him outside, he's afraid to cough now."
