    Default CAFS system

Does anyone run the CET CAFS wildland system on a brush truck? We are looking at this system to replace a pump on our brush truck. Any good or bad points about system would be helpful

We asked for a demonstration when spec'ing our brush truck.

What we got: a non-working unit on a pallet to "look at."

We laughed and went with Snuffer, whose dealer made several trips to our department with working models, and essentially bent-over backwards to assist us and work with us.

Granted, these are dealer issues, not performance related. Our Snuffer does work very well though.

Do you have a website for the Snuffer?

I believe ours was on the lower end, around $30k. It's a diesel skidmount. I believe it's 45cfm/125gpm.

What I love about it is how SIMPLE it is to use. We had a brush fire the other day during high fire danger conditions... rolled up, walk in the forestry backpack dropping hose... connect it, start up the Snuffer... fire out. It definetly maximizes limited water supplies, either by virtue of the trucks GVWR or remote locations.

We have the Snuffer 8700. It's working well so far.
We bought a demo and Snuffer does provide pretty good customer service.

    Default Snuffer problems

I see you're having success with the Snuffer. We've got the Snuffer 45-120 and have had good luck with it. That is until it froze the foam proportioners. Do you have a number for the local dealer that I can get a hold of to get the parts? I hate to see the truck sit there and not be used. SAD!!

Snuffers web page is down - they may be out of business.

    Default proportioner

To find a replacement dosing pump just Google Dosatron or Dosmatic, then look through water powered dosing pumps offerings offered by both manufacturers. Your proportioner may even have identifying markings on it which would really make for an easy search. Good luck.

We recently purchased two Porta Cafs units. These are back pack units to allow us to work around structures and get into some thick cover brush. Anyone have any experience with these units (good or bad). We had a CET unit, it did not work from the factory, the dealer we bought if from sent it back and the factory rep said there was nothing wrong with it yet they kept it for 5 months and then sent it back and they wanted to charge us for shipping, we raised hell, but our local dealer paid for it. We have also had problems with the portable pumps that we bought in the past from them as well. We have now switched over to only Hale portable pumps.

    Default Cet Cafs

We purchased the CET Wildland CAFS unit for our brush truck. We have been running it for some months now and have been very pleased with it. The CET rep was good to work with. We also have used it on a Structure training burn and it worked really well.

How much did the CET cafs cost?
Did you buy complete or add it to what you had?

We purchased the CAFS unit and replaced the pump that was on our brush truck. We used a poly agriculture spray tank for the foam cell. The unit with a new electric hose reel, hose, and the extras we added came to a little over $17,000.00.
