I firmly believe that you should always think that YOU work for the best fire department. So my answer is mine!

I am very proud of my dept. We are very well trained, very well equipped, very well respected by our community and exceptionally good at what we do. We have a very professional organization and we take great pride in our jobs!
Our extrication team has even been NUMBER 1 IN THE WORLD, or placed second in the world, several years running! Our Honor Guard has taken state honors several times as well.
There is always room for improvement though, and we are continually working extremely hard to provide even better service(s) to those who depend on us!

Okay, this thread has potential so long as it remains well rounded, fully grounded, and NOT loudly sounded.
There's nothing wrong with having some pride, being secure in your abilities, yet recognizing the accomplishments of others. (And, for crying out loud, let's leave ISO outta this. That doesn't reflect anything but political compliance with arbitrary quantifications.)

The best voulnteer fire department around is the Friday Harbor Department in Friday Harbor, Washington. For being on an island and being all volunteer, they have excellent response times, and mutual aid from the surrounding islands (in the EXTREMETLY rare instances where they need it) is awesome as well. Back a few years ago, a building in town that housed several businesses went up in flames. Thanks to the fire department, the neighboring structures (which were in extremely close proxmity) were spared.

I just got back to the firehouse from a 3-story frame with the top floor going pretty good and we made short work of it with 2 lines and a third streched to the second floor standing by. I think we do damn good.

Ok, I will play along. In my opinion only, some of the big names in California in no specific order-
LA County, LA City, Orange County Fire Authority, Ventura County
The ISO Class 1 FDs are- Anaheim, Torrance, Huntington Beach, Long Beach, Santa Ana, Stockton, Vernon, Culver City and Arcadia. (questionable) LA City also says they are Class 1, but ask them for the details. (it should be interesting)Last edited by CALFFBOU; 05-03-2006 at 02:08 AM.

Well.....................
I think we ( www.gdvfd18.com ) are reasonably well balanced. We may not be the absolute best at anything, but we're pretty good at everything. Good enough to be named Maryland's Volunteer Organization of the year in 2005.
