Most places don't care if you're already on the job or not. Starting pay is the same for everybody. Starting pay can be anywhere in the 30's-40's.

Most Southern California metropolitan departments start their recruits at $50,000 (plus or minus). While that may be slightly higher than the average for the country, housing prices start at $400K.

I'd say the majority of departments in NE Ohio start around $35,000. Many places top out in the first 5-7 years though. All in all, starting pay doesn't mean much.

Chicagoland starts in the mid 40s and usually tops in the mid to hogh 60s. Houses anywhere you would actually want to live are in the 300s

My FD starts out at $29,995 but ive never seen a firefighter get paid that. Most make 33,000 there first year. New homes here are from 175,000 to 300,000. I would never pay anything over 300,000. Thats crazy around here.

The starting salary for a Seattle Firefighter is $51,732 per year, with increases thereafter, per the provisions
of the collective bargaining agreement pay schedules.

They are the largest department in the area, so I list them for an example. Most area departments are within $5.00/hr of SFD.
Median home price in King County (Seattle area) is in the middle $300,000.

$25K, houses avg. $600K and up in decent neighborhoods, rents no less than $1200. Are you still sure you want to come to NY and live like a skell?

You would have a hard time finding a department here in the san francisco bay area (california) starting at less than 60-65K a year, but good luck finding a decent house for less than 600k.

San Antonio starts off around $40k a year and builds relatively quickly. Lucky for us the housing is very affordable here. You can buy a brand new 3 bed/2 bath home in a good neighborhood for $150k.

Base salary for a Step 1 Firefighter in North Las Vegas is $50,478.26. That's not including EMT/Medic pay, FLSA, and an occasional O.T. shift. You max out at Step 7. The housing market prices have risen fast for the past 5 yrs, holding still right now. Anyone needing help in that area, my better half is the one to talk to. Let me know.
