State Police Searching For Motorcycle Involved in Pursuit/Fatal Trooper Crash
    Last Update: 4/24/2006 6:05:54 PM

Pompey (WSYR-TV) - State Police are asking for your help in finding the high-speed motorcycle that was involved in a high speed pursuit which led to the crash that killed Trooper Craig Todeschini last night in Pompey. If you know someone riding that type of bike in the area of Sweet Road, Route 91, or Route 20 in Pompey last night, call State Police at 677-3124.

Todeschini was heading northbound on Route 91 when he spotted the speeding motorcycle heading in the other direction, at an estimated speed of around 100 MPH.

Todeschini turned and started to pursue the motorcycle, when he lost control and crashed his SUV into a tree. The pursuit lasted no more than two minutes, according to state police.

The motorcyclist did not stop, and the search continues for them. Police believe the motorcyclist could be as young as 18 or 19, or as old as in their early 30ís.

Police say there have been several motorcycle speeding arrests in Pompey over the last several years.

Trooper Todeschini joined the State Police in 2002. He also served with the Solvay Fire Department. He was a five-year veteran, and most recently served as a lieutenant. Prior to working with Solvay, he was a firefighter with the Taunton Fire Department.

Trooper Todeschini is survived by his wife, who is eight months pregnant with the couple's first child.

No details yet on calling hours or funeral arrangements, but we will have them for you on NewsChannel 9 and 9wsyr.com as soon as they become available.

Probably not the best place to say this but... Chasing a motorcycle with an SUV? Even a Crown Vic would be pointless... I think police agencies need to get their act together and prevent this sort of thing from even occuring.

    RIP....

Your first instinct is usually the correct one. There will plenty of time for that type of analysis by the state police LATER.
