Safety and $$, almost kills FF's
On Thursday, 27 Apr 06, our fire department's tanker, a 1974 Ford F-700, old oil tanker, lost its brakes at a fire scene. To top it off, the fire was on a very steep incline and the driver of the tanker did all she could to avoid running over the command post with about dozen or so FF's. Do to her training, she was able to bring the truck under control and hurt no one. Well for our department, it is of great embarassment and shame that this has happened. We have always placed Safety as number one, but our $$ are stretched so thin. We operate on less than $16,000.00 a year, and between the electric bill, heating bill, phone bill, fuel bill, and apparatus repair bills, plus insurance payments on the firehouse and apparatus, $$ has become a factor in this almost horrible event. The tanker is now O.O.S., as it should have been many years ago, but without money to replace...we are now without. I write this thread, so that other deparments like ours, can again try to get by, and remember Safety is still number 1. Also if you do have a tanker that could be donated to help us replace this tanker, we would like to her from you.. @ email@example.com thank you..
