Exclamation History and information on the first arson to start Arson Investigation?

Hello there, my name is Nick and I am doing a research paper for my Arson Investigation Class in college and need some assistance in doing so. I was given an assignment to research the cause of why arson investigators came into play in the US, such as to what city did the first fire happen that was investigated and what year it was. I have already contacted the NFPA, and ATF and a few other places that were local. No one has been able to help me out with this question. The paper is due this wed and i have been looking for ever and can not even find anything. I asked the teacher for a hint and he told me to look from 1938 and forward. All i was able to find was the fire in GA from a hotel that led to burn 4000+ homes. If you can please help me solve this question so i can research further for my paper. If you don't know the answer please pass this email on.
I also asked about the Coconut Grove Fire and he told me I was wrong.

    Any help please?

what Id like to know is why your teacher is making you write a history report for an Fire Investigation class? What? No field training or actual fire investigation? You definitely are not going to UNH!!!!

Default History in the investigation field

History is a very good tool for investigators. What we learn from the past may help us in the future.

Nick; Good luck with your paper. Much can be learned by fire investigators from a historical study of fire investigations. Most importantly, we can learn from the mistakes of the past, in terms of the lack of scientific basis for a lot of the things accepted as absolute truth (ie; spalling of concrete, rapid fire spread and crazed glass to name a few).

You may be interested to know that the first mention of arson actually occcurred in the Bible:

    Exodus 22:6 (New International Version)

6 "If a fire breaks out and spreads into thornbushes so that it burns shocks of grain or standing grain or the whole field, the one who started the fire must make restitution.

since I looked like an *** with my reply Im gonna try and redeem myself by saying I was refering to the history of, "such as to what city did the first fire happen that was investigated and what year it was." Sorry, just sounded like and 8th grade report question.

I believe, but not 100% sure, it was after the Second Great Fire of Boston....which was in 1676.

Now...if you really want some trivia....

Massachusetts enacted the first smoking ban around the same time period. Back then, you couldn't smoke outdoors due to drought conditions.
