Hows it goin, I'm wondering which way is the best to custom shape my New yorker helmet, I've heard the oven rumors but am unsure on how to go about doing it. Yes I know some are going to say why dont you bend it in real fire, but I dont feel that in a fire I should be worrying about bending my helmet's shape. So any suggestions would be great.

leave It Alone. Your Warranty Will Be Null And Void If You Modify The Helmet In Any Way Shape Or Form. Additionally, If You Are Injured In The Line Of Duty, Benefits Can And Will Be Denied You For Modifying Your Equipment Without Manufacturer Approval.
if The Manufacturer Wanted You To Have Bends In The Helmet, They Would Sell Them As An Option."Loyalty Above all Else. Except Honor."

I understand everything your saying but maybe its just curiousity but lets says its get bent from years of big fires and one day you do get killed how could they prove whether you bent it or it actually was formed that way from the heat??NEVER FORGET!

My suggestion is to not bother with worrying about bending it in a fire or otherwise. Many (not all) of the bent leathers I have seen were bent from YEARS of use in fires. Why not just let it happen with time rather than risking ruining a perfectly good helmet?

Exactly what you said..Leave it alone...and don't worry about bending it...theres no need for cowboys on the fireground...Get the job done and go home to your family, don't worry about how many fires your helmet looks like you've been in!!

the only part of it i decided to bend and i did it yesterday was the front of it because if anybody noticed when you get the N5A from cairns the front is angled down and with bourkes they sit to low, almost to the point where they block part of your line of sight. So I bent it up so it was level with the rest of the helmet. And whoever it was that said the warm water will do it, they were correct it did it great, thank you for the suggestion. And if i wanted a cowboy hat I would buy one, so before some of you pass judgement realize some people also do things from a functionality standpoint and not just for looks.

Tell that to your family when you are reading the letter from your organization's insurance agency denying the payment for your hospitalization and demanding your payment immediately, in full, because you modified a piece of equipment without Mfr approval!

the functionality was due to the front coming from the factory angled downward and having bourkes on it the bourkes got in the way of my line of sight so i bent up the front brim so it was level with the rest of the helmet, some of you are making it sound like i made this thing into a 10 gallon hee haw hat. And look at almost all older new yorker helmets they are all bent up so hmm... they gonna deny those guys coverage umm... no whats the diff if it gets bent in a fire or gets a minor bend by hand to make the helmet more wearable.

Come on fellas, lets lighten up a little. What's wrong in cooking and bending your leather? Takes a long time to get real crust on your lid at 25 calls a year...
