The on board camera systems thread got me thinking about this.... Any departments have apparatus (custom or commercial) with the collision avoidance system on it? For example, like Kenworth has avaliable, if you cut your right turn signal on, if the sensor detects a car in the blind spot, it will warn you with a light and a warning buzzer in the cab. They also have it in the front bumper, so that if you run cruise control and come upon a car, it will automatically back down your speed to a safe following distance, or even engage the jake brake. (Granted, cruse control wouldn't be used on fire apparatus)

antiroll
No collision avoidance systems yet but we do have three units outfitted with a roll warning system that is supposed to warn when the vehicle is close to a roll condition.

Rosenbauer has this years Tech Drive trucks set up so that when you turn your turn signal on it turns the camera on for that respecitve side and displays it on the driver and officer displays.
They also have the anti-roll alert system that lvwrench mentions which alerts you of a roll over conditon as well as roll stability control which cuts power to the engine and begins to apply the brake when it senses a roll over condition.

Those options on the Rosenabuer Tech Drive Trucks would be Spartan Chassis options that any manufacturer that sells Spartan Chassis can sell. It is not a Rosenbauer proprietary item.

The cameras driven by the turn signal and reverse signals is nothing new, it's been around for a while now. I can't see the warning signal working very well since it will go off every time you put the signal on and not really warn you anything.
The best anti-collision system is your eyes.Even the burger-flippers at McDonald's probably have some McWackers.
