Reservoir Volunteer Fire Department Hosts
Reservoir Fire Fest 2006

BRANDON- The Reservoir Volunteer Fire Department (RVFD) is hosting its inaugural Fire Fest 2006, at Lakeshore Park (Brandon, MS), June 17, 2006, according to RVFD officials.

The event includes the Clear Channel Firefighter Combat Challenge and a parade featuring fire and rescue trucks from all over the state and possibly others. “We are very excited about Fire Fest,” RVFD President Brad Temple said. “To my knowledge, this is the first time Mississippi has seen an event of this nature.”

The parade begins at 10 a.m. and will travel along Spillway Road from Lakeside Presbyterian Church to Lakeshore Park located off North Shore Parkway.

The Clear Channel Firefighter Combat Challenge will begin at Noon and will run throughout the day. The Challenge provides a snapshot of one of the most physically demanding and respected occupations. It is an intense, spirited competition that demonstrates to the viewing public the nature of the job. The Challenge is an embodiment of the essence of firefighting- an urgent race against time.

“Some people may have seen the world championship on ESPN,” Temple said. “This will be a regional qualifier for the world championship. We are expecting a great turnout.”

Reservoir Fire Fest will also feature children’s activities, such as space jumps, obstacle courses, and a rock-climbing wall in a clean, family environment. Fire/Rescue vendors will be on hand to promote their products, and local food vendors will provide food and beverage services for a price.

Tickets can be purchased in advance until June 1 by visiting the event website at Ticket prices are $6 in advance and $8 at the gate. Children ages 10 and under will be admitted free of charge.
