New 9-1-1 Community Forum
I am pleased to invite you to join 911Lifeline -- a Yahoo Group created to serve the public safety community.
911Lifeline is a forum for 9-1-1 telecommunicators, PSAP and dispatch center managers, and 9-1-1 trainers. Membership is also open the general public in an effort to foster better understanding of 9-1-1, and the people behind the number. The group name reflects what we areóa lifeline for the public and the first responders who protect them.
The demands of our profession are many and often critical in terms of saving lives. Accordingly, the requirements for entry are high. Many newcomers have difficulty reaching the necessary proficiency levels and are frequently "thrown into" the fray, or become frustrated and quit. The members of 911Lifeline are dedicated to helping new entrants to this profession deal with this pressure. To this end, we are developing an innovative mentoring program that will pair screened and experienced veterans with those new to the profession.
911Lifeline is committed to the development and maintenance of reference material to help you in your work. In the files and links sections, you will find resources for on-the-job use whether it be to look-up aircraft registrations, find the legal contact for an ISP, search state statutes, get technical manuals and SOPís, or keep up with the latest news and trends. No matter what the question, someone has probably discovered the answer. 911Lifeline is intended to bring it all together in one place.
Finally, 911Lifeline helps enable its members to deal with the unique stresses of the job. Along with our police, fire, and EMS brothers and sisters, we frequently deal with human tragedy, and the darker side of life. 911Lifeline enables its members to support one another in those instances, and even to laugh at the comedy we find in life and in ourselves by sharing the good and the bad.
