Denver firefighter taken off life support
DENVER - Fire Lieutenant Rich Montoya died Sunday morning after suffering critical injuries in a structure fire May 14.
The Montoya family, and the Denver Fire Department expressed their thanks for the support, thoughts and prayers from the community.
The Denver Fire Department will hold a press conference Sunday at 4:00 pm.

a very very sad day here. we hoped he was somehow going to be one of those few that comes out well out of an asystolic arrest, but there's only so much a body can handle.

God bless Brother Montoya and his family. I have some history with Denver FD. Grandfather, great uncle, and cousin were Denver firemen. Sending my best to you all,,,stay safe.

I only talked to Rich a few times by phone but was instantly impressed with his knowledge and passion for firefighting.
Just wish I could have met him in person.................

Montoya's funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception on Colfax Avenue.

The Funeral Mass for fallen brother Richard P. Montoya will be held on Thursday, May 25th at 1100 hours in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 1530 Logan Street. Internment will follow immediately at Fort Logan National Cemetery. There will be a reception in the Colorado Convention Center at approximately 1530 hours. Parking will be available in the Convention Center parking garage.
The Montoya family has asked that memorial contributions be made directly through any FIRST BANK branch. The donations will benefit the following organizations: Mi Casa Resource Center, DPS Foundation, and the Denver Fire Fighter’s Burn Foundation.
