I'm a new member to this site and wanted to try and get to know different people. I'm trying to get started in a Firefighting career and I'm looking for help from others. Send me something anytime you want just to get to know each other or as a tip to get me started. Thanks.

    Kyle,

Welcome to the forums! Whether you realize it or not, you have entered a community of very seasoned firefighters/emts/paramedics/etc. Do not be afraid to ask any question that you may have because the only stupid question is the one not asked.

I see that you use correct grammar and punctuation and that is key to gaining respect from some of your fellow forum members. Also, feel free to disagree at times with others here. Hey, sometimes it happens.

Well again welcome to the forums and if you have any questions feel free to PM or email me.

P.S. - Here's a link to see what some of the other forum member's qualifications are:

I will be traveling to Vegas this weekend. Does anyone know on how to pick up a Vegas F.D. T-Shirt while I'm there?

Thank you for replying. Are you a member of a fire department around Lakewood?

    Kyle,

There are quite a few departments in the Denver Metro area and along the Front Range. You may want to look at becoming a volunteer and getting your EMT.

Also, if you have never tested before, begin testing and learn the process.

In order to start volunteering do I need to be a certain age, have any certain firefighter certificates, or do I need to be enrolled into anything? If I do need any requirements what are they? Are there always volunteer positions open or is there a waiting list that I have to sign onto?

There are age requirements... how old are you?

Many depts will take you as a volunteer and train you.

Many career depts will take you (after the testing process) with no
training as well.. some prefer those who have no experience.

    Welcome to the site Kyle
If someone with multiple personalities threatens to kill himself, is it considered a hostage situation?

I will be 18 in August and I will also still be a senior in high school. This upcoming August is when I was hopefully wanting to start volunteering if possible. I don't have any training yet either. I'm also not sure whether or not to try and take some classes such as EMT Basic, Fire Academy, or some other corresponding classes. What path should I take to help me out the most?

I would like to invite you to come and do a ride-along with Wheat Ridge. Its a great place to start. No certification is required, we offer FFI, First Responder, and Hazmat Operations training; run about 2800 calls a year, no residency requirement.

    Hope to hear from you,

Yes, I would love to go on a ride along. Are there certain dates that you do ride alongs or am I allowed to go on one anytime I want. Maybe if I could get a telephone number to the WRFD I could call you guys to talk more and get more information on how to get started with you guys. Thank you for the invitation.

    WRFDTO,

Could I have your name, so when I call the department I can talk to you about scheduling a time to go on the ride along. My name is Kyle Flores by the way.

Hey Kyle. I'm also in a similar situation as you, only it's taken me a few extra years to discover that I wanted to be a firefighter. I plan on taking the EMT-B class at St. Anthony's hospital and would like to test for Volunteer Firefighting in the fall. Let me know if you would like to partner up at all.
