Just out of curiosity , In your volunteer department , who has the authority in the operations division the fir chief or the president ?

do you mean the operations division regarding the Incident Command System or just the daily operation of the fire dept. The operations division at a call would be run by the most highly trained and experienced firefighter, usually an officer. As far as administrative stuff we have a paid full time chief who deals with all of that.

The president is in charge of the fire department (the corporation itself). The chief is responsible for operational items. to clarrify, the chief is responsible for everything on the apparatus floor and what happens on a fire ground. everything else is the domain of the president.If my basic HazMat training has taught me nothing else, it's that if you see a glowing green monkey running away from something, follow that monkey!
