Default Hey I'm new..and Dreaming of joining the FDNY

hey, my name is Matthew Diaz..i'm new to the forum and i'm glad i found it.
I'm really expecting to learn great things from fellow firefighters and also help.
I'm currently 17 years old living In NYC. My plan is to get in shape and study alot over the summer, then submit the application to take the fire Fighters exam in fall of 06. Then during the course from 17-21 i'll be attending John jay college to recieve the necessary credits.

I just want some help and some tips from you guy's..i really look up to every firefighter and wish i was in there shoes whenever i see them.
Its a dream and passion of mine.

Anything you can do to help, will be greatly apperciated thanks !

Only 100% will make your dream come true. If you settle for 99%, you won't make it and we won't want you anyway.

BTW, there is no such thing as 110%, or I would have suggested it.

The written is a simple test to see if you are breathing and O2 is getting to your brain.

The physical is another story. There are many prep courses, one given by the FDNY Football team (I think they still offer it).

Good luck and don't take the backdoor.

....the physical agility standards are a little.....lower for the "promotional".

Definitely not looked on as the honorable way in by the guys on the job. It's a big department; they'll know.

    Good luck,

On top of all the other tips I would have to say be diligent and never give up because the whole process can become really frustrating due to beaurocraci and other BS.
