Somewhere on the home page you need to mention that this is the illustrious Portland, MAINE FD. There's another Portland out on the left coast and sometimes folks get confused.

FDCT,Yep, Maine has a few "paid" depts.Off the top of my head,and that will only get you part way there are: Portland,South Portland,Augusta,Bangor,Rockla nd,Rumford,Scarborough,Presque Isle,and I'm sure I forgot a few. T.C.

how many firefighters did Portland hire the last test?

AHHHH Portland, ME! An excellent dept. I turned down a job offer there 8 years ago. The pay was CRAP!!! But the job is GREAT! I just couldn't justify leaving my dept. for a 50% cut in pay at the time. I love hearing about it and I'm glad you guys have a web site now.

how many firefighters did Portland hire the last test?

The last test was given about this time last year, I cant remember if the last class came from that list or the one before it. The previous test was given 3 years ago and there was at least 1 class off of that one. for a total of around 30 positions in the last 3 years. We test every 2 years. There was also a class of 16 4 years ago. There are some grumblings about a class comming up but i will believe that when i see it as we are just about at our alloted number of firefighters....as for paramedics thats another story.

The pay has gone up considerably in the last 8 years but still not great, You need to wait untill you 3rd year step before you can really start living like a normal human being again. But yes it is an incredible place to work, the guys are great and we catch a fairly decent amount of work

46,I TOLD you I'd miss a few.Brewer,suburb of Bangor,across the bridge,Hehe.Westbrook has paid drivers as do a few other communities.Getting interesting trying to keep up with all the changes. T.C.
