If you want a good look at a study conducted into childrens percieved risks of harm from major events here it is.
The most interesting thing through the report which involved around 400 school children is that on going Hazard Education greatly mitigates their fear of these events and supllies them with physical and emotional tools to be able to survive and cope with the event.
I am including this due to Fire being one of the events discussed, however I believe it has implications across the board when you evaluate risk factors within your area.
This could be used to justify improved, or ongoing education for your area, as it also clearly points out that this education and knowledge is taken home and discussed once the children become comfortable with their knowledge.
Let me know what you think.
