    Default I'm so confused. Help?

I'm currently in school getting my associates in Fire Science. I'm taking my EMT next semester and going to the fire academy.

Right now I'm only taking 4 classes a week, I have tons of downtown where I'm doing nothing but hitting the gym or playing golf.

After I get my degree I'd like to do an oversees contract

My question is, what can I be doing right now? Should I be volleying? What is something I can be doing in all the downtime I have to help get me a job at my department.

    I go to school 4 hours a day 3 days a week, that's it.

    I'm 21

This is my first post. I like to lurk!

How about joining the army reserves? I could take the time off from school to do boot camp then come back.

Or any of the other militarys? Would that help me?

For me- The millitary was not the route.

Have you considered volunteering your time to a NON fire function? Big Brothers, Red Cross, etc.

So when the oral board says- "What have you done to prepare for this job?" You can say more than school, FF1, etc....

i thought about joining the army and going into their firefighter program. but from what i was told is that the army is going to abolish their fire program and turn all fire operations over to civilian fire departments.

That is something I will look into.

Is volleying bad if you want a full time job?

Playing tennis and volleyball may help with the fitness aspect...

The Army is not phasing out military firefighters. If your recruiter told you this, he is mistaken. They are being re-organized into small deployable units that can mobilize and leave quickly. Actually, new units are being stood up and staffed as I write this.

From another thread about the army getting rid of firefighting as stated by KevinFFVFD. If your interested in firefighting in the military then I would highly recommend staying away from the Navy. Come check out the Federal and Military Firehouse Forum.. There might be threads there that could help you out.
