What are my chances

I just entered the AF DEP. At the MEPS I listed FP as my #1 choice.

Whats the chances of me getting it, as in, whats the outlook for FF positions in FY07?

I know its more of a luck thing, but I just wondered if it was possible to know if they are going to "hire" a lot or a few or whatever.

I just read something yesturday that said the AF is going to restructure their FF to be a part of Readiness. I dont know if that means much to you but the readiness guys do a lot of misc. type jobs. My husband is graduating the 19th from the Fire program for the Army. SOrry, I cant help you out with what your chances are. The AF is different from the Army cause you cant really choose your job right off the bat like you do the Army.

50/50 you should have gotten guaranteed from your receuiter. If your still in DEP maybe you have a better chance pressure your salesman into a guarantee.

Recruiters will tell half-truths to get their numbers. The best way to get a guarantee is either smoke the ASVAB or hold out until you get it in writing. I’m a retired USAF SNCO, I was a USAF Firefighter my first 4 years from 1980 to 1984 at Mather AFB, CA, Being a base Firefighter/EMT was a great job but I was unfortunately Palace Balanced along with over 1000 other firefighters when they shrank the force in the summer of 1984. I ended up in F-15 Avionics Maintencae until I retired. You need to ensure you get a guarantee slot even if you end up having to wait an extended period of time. Failing to do this the recruiter will tell you some BS story about he can’t get slots and why don’t you go ahead and go in open general. Don’t do it, this is the quickest way to end up in service or Security Force’s

Didnt get a guarantee in writing? Have fun as a Meteorologist in the Antarctic Circle.......Or as a Fueling Technician in Irkutsk, Alaska.......Or maybe an Aircraft Tire Specialist.............
