CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) - About 75 firefighters and other
emergency officials from across southern Illinois gathered in
Carbondale last night to pay their respects to the city's first
female firefighter, who died last week.
Dana MacCrimmon died Friday afternoon of unspecified causes. She
was 45.
She was hired by the fire department in 1998, becoming the
city's first female firefighter. She was named Carbondale's
employee of the year in 2005.
She also volunteered as the director of the week-long Southern
Illinois Camp for Burned Children.
She is survived by three children, sons Justin and Cody, and
daughter Mallory.
