RICHFIELD, Utah (AP) - A firefighter died Thursday afternoon
while battling a 250-acre fire in a rugged canyon above Oak City.
The firefighter's identity and the cause of his death have not
been released.
The death was reported to the Millard County sheriff's office
about 2:25 p.m.
The man from the Richfield Interagency Fire Organization, said
U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management spokeswoman
Davida Carnahan.
The firefighter was one of 40 crew members battling the Devil's
Den fire, which was started by lightning just before midnight
Tuesday in the Canyon Mountains and was burning pinon, juniper and
brush,
The other firefighters were pulled off the mountain after the
death, Carnahan said.
Sheriff Robert Dekker said investigators still were at the scene
late Thursday and the body was still on the mountain.

Koyle was from Holden, Utah.

HOLDEN, Utah (AP) - The body of a fallen firefighter was taken
to a cemetery aboard a fire truck Wednesday at the close of a
funeral that drew more than 1,000 people, including Gov. Jon
Huntsman and senior federal officials.
Fire trucks from Utah and beyond were parked along Main Street
to honor Spencer Koyle, 33, who died Aug. 17 in the Devil's Den
wildfire in Fishlake National Forest.
Trucks flashed their lights as Koyle's casket was transported to
Holden Cemetery from a Mormon church.
"It's a close fire community. There were a lot of tears," said
Susan Marzec, a U.S. Bureau of Land Management spokeswoman.
Koyle, who supervised federal firefighters in central Utah, was
scouting the Devil's Den fire last week when it suddenly trapped
him, authorities said.
As the family buried Koyle, a bagpiper played "Amazing Grace"
and a firefighting plane passed overhead. BLM Deputy Director James
Hughes traveled from Washington, D.C., to attend the service.
Meanwhile, the fire continued to burn near Oak City, about 15
miles north of the funeral of Holden. It covered nearly 8,000
acres, or 12.5 square miles, and was 15 percent contained.
Authorities feared gusty and erratic winds would hurt efforts to
suppress it.
