    Firefighters Injured in Bronx Fire
Last Edited: Sunday, 27 Aug 2006, 4:22 PM EDT
Created: Sunday, 27 Aug 2006, 4:22 PM EDT

Firefighters, police officers and other emergency responders have responded to a serious fire at a commercial building in the Mount Eden section of The Bronx, FDNY officials say.

The building, which houses a discount store, has suffered a partial collapse.

At least one firefighter was trapped and called out for assistance. That firefighter was rescued almost immediately, the department says.

An unknown number of firefighters have been hurt in the blaze and there are unconfirmed reports other firefighters are trapped.

MyFoxNY will have more details as they become available. Tune in to Fox 5 News at 6 o'clock for live reports.
You need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.

NY1 has learned that one of the firefighters rescued from a three alarm fire in the Bronx Sunday afternoon died from his injuries.

Sources say that the firefighter, whose name has not been released, died of a heart attack while being transported to the hospital.

Meanwhile, the condition of at least four other firefighters who were rescued from the partially-collapsed building at 1575 Walton Avenue in the Concourse section of the Bronx is unknown.

The flames moved through a building that houses a 99 cents store and a wireless phone store.

    Fire officials are still investigating.

NY1 is NOT reporting a LODD. 2 are reported critical but latest report doesn't include any dead.

Please don't jump the gun and let the process continue as it should:

NY1 had reported the LODD when the user posted.

We're also updating the story here:

A press conference is scheduled in about an hour.

    Rest in Peace.

    Default Update on PT count

Did I hear this right? They reported on the radio of having 23 patients, all firefighters, no civilans. Injuries as follows:

    16 Red Tags
    5 Yellow Tags
    2 Green Tags

Is this correct? Or do I have the Red and Green tags messed up? Thats A LOT of firefighters.

I'm not fimilar with the FDNY radio system. I heard someone, I beleive it was C10 who transmitted a total of 23 pt's, then gave those color codes. He was then asked if any were civilans, he replyed no, all firefighters. That just boggled my mind and was trying to get some clarifcation on that.

My thoughts and Prayers go out to the FDNY on what appears to be another tragic Sunday in FDNY recent History.

The tags are used by EMS at any fire/incident where there are numerous casualties, whether they be us or civilians. I have never heard it reported over the FD radio before, but yes, they are used.

C10 is one of the Chiefs, maybe Cassano, not really sure.

C10 is an EMS command car. The radio communications being refered to are likely EMS not FDNY
