Question I'd like to believe his story...BUT

Teen charged after setting home on fire while 'doodling' with
    lighter

HARPURSVILLE, N.Y. (AP) - A teenage boy living near Binghamton
might want to do his doodling with a pen instead of a lighter.
Police in the town of Colesville say the teenager's
"absent-minded doodling" with a lighter got out of hand early
this morning and he set his home on fire
Authorities say as the 16-year-old boy chatted with a friend on
the phone around 3 a-m, he repeatedly flicked a lighter next to a
    wall.
The wall ignited and the youth enlisted the help of another
teenage boy to try to extinguish the blaze.
When they couldn't put the fire out, they alerted other family
members, who called the fire department to the home. Everyone made
it safely out of the house.
A sheriff's department investigator says the teen was charged
with felony arson because while the fire wasn't intentionally set,
    his actions were reckless.
The detective said it seemed to be a case of absent-mindedness,
saying it's "not like he's an evil kid trying to torch his
    house."

How long would you need to hold a lighter flame next to drywall...or any other wall surface...in order to cause ignition?

    Lightbulb Not Long............

After a Job we had a few months ago, nothing would suprise me. We found a home where the walls had been covered with Burlap, then sprayed with Clear Coat. Burned real quick. I guess some folks have strange tastes in interior design......

I was just going to ask...........what the heck kind of wallcovering was on that wall. Somehow I'm not quite believing the "I was just flicking my lighter against the wall........honest "

Well, I would think the fire investigators are quite well aware of this too, so I put my bet on the news media not having all the details.

Couple years ago,we got called to a member's house that caught fire electrically in a closet with no wires running through it.Needless to say,the guy didn't last long on the department due to the arson investigation.
It seems like every other time we'd get called back for difficulty breathing or some medical call,we'd see gas cans under the new trailer that we'd remove in full view of the family before departing.
"Just checking",is how I'd put it when it was my turn to look.

Anyone ever watch "Trading Spaces"? I've watched them glue things like burlap, straw, cardboard, and even brown paper bags to the walls. They've even made lamp shades out of construction paper and similar materials.

Nothing would surprise me after watching that show.
