As part of my last class in EFO, I am looking for any information on CDPs.
Specifically if your department uses them, how are they used, do they impact promotions or advancement, are they spelled out.
Thanks in advance.

what are CDPs
Career Development Plans/planning is a tool designed to assist those aspiring to advance in a department with the tools they need to make it happen.
example: as you start in your department your HR or training division informs you what it would take to become an officer (career advisement). As you advance up those sitdowns become formilized to the point where goals and objectives are set and career tracks are established. Some departments get to the point where as you get to the Chief level ranks you have completed, EFO, degrees and belong to community service groups outside your normal settings.
that in a nutshell is what CDPs are.

Thanks for the definition of CDP. Our department has a similar tool in our "general orders" but is usually up to the individual to plan, implement, and motivate themselves to complete. It is taken in consideration during certain promotional opportunities when they arise. But usually we follow the California State Fire Marshall's curriculum. (which is available online)
