stop by your local fire department, and request an application.

if your department is 100% paid, try the next town over, and do the same.

    make sense?

Get up next to a current member of the department that you're interested in joining, then go to their fundraisers, be enthusiastic, ask questions about the equipment and meet as many members as you can.
That would be a good start.
Be prepared to give a lot of your time.

It would apprear my friend that there are several fire compnies in woodbridge twp. Start with the one that is closest to your home and ask them for an application to be a volunteer firefighter. I think in NJ you must be 18 years old and in good health and able to pass a criminal background check to start. But at any rate, just ask for an application, fill it out and see what happens.

I used to live in NJ and when I broke out in 2004, I decided to become a vollie. I wasn't sure about the max age requirement which I thought might be 45 years old to start. I wa surprised to find no upper age limit in PA. I started at age 46.

Your next question is "Is it fun?" The answer is "yes".

Here is another resource for you. This list is from the NJ Department of Fire Safety.

    http://www.nj.gov/dca/dfs/fdlea.pdf

It lists by county, all the fire departments in the state to include fulltime, vollie and combo.

Hope this helps and good luck.

first of all my friend, if you live in edison then you don't live in woodbridge township. Both are large (and completely seperate) towns in NJ.

second, in edison (and woodbridge too) the fire department is a combination department. Edison has some volunteer stations and/or apparatus, but they get dispatched really funkily (sp?). I don't remember what woodbridge has, but it's probably similar.

best thing to do is to stop by your local fire station, or check out the woodbridge FD or Edison FD's websites.

    Exclamation

http://www.edisonnj.org/fire/ or call (732) 248-7200 and ask questions. It would be good to stop by the station and show your interest..and ask the brothers how to approach the issue.

    Good Luck!

Woodbridge has quite a few fire Departments in the township depending on what district you live in determines which dept you will be able to join. If you live on the Edison border in Iselin you have Iselin District 9 and 11 fire houses you can join. If you live in Hopelawn then theres hopelawn Fd...then theres Keasbey fire dept if you live in the Keasbey/Fords section. Then of course if you live in Fords area you join the Fords Fire dept. Then if you live in the Woodbridge proper section of town..theres the Woodbridge FD. So you have many choices in town. Just stop by your local FD and they'll hook you up with an application...oh and I forgot....if you live in Port Reading then theres another firehouse to go to...Portreading, Fords & Woodbridge are Combination Departments....so someone should be there 24/7. Oh yea..theres one more firehouse....Avenel section of woodbridge...They have paid drivers during the day.

One of the paid firefighters placed ladder 1-2-5 right next to Lings Kitchen then the " Overhang " fell onto the turntable and bent the gear that rotates. Do you work on ( FA 1, FA 16 ) etc !
