I was reading the article on the front page titled New York Decides 9/11 Hero Died in Line of Duty and it got me thinking about that.

Not taking anything away from this man's sacrifice and his families suffering, but I believe that 343 ws the number of FDNY firefighters that died that day. Correct me if I'm wrong please.

343, 344 or just 43...I still can not believe they/we lost so many FFs in one day. Its just so....I dont know.
I still get lost and angry at that number.
Sorry, I just dont know how to explain it.

I always say it was 344 because I strongly feel that Keith Roma should be counted. He was a member of the FDNY Fire Patrol.

To be exact. It is 341 Firefighters (Father Judge held a Uniformed Rank and Commissioner Feehan included) and 2 FDNY Ems Personnel that makes it the 343 that it is. Should it included Fire Patrolman Roma, some say no...I say yes. But be clear Signal 99..it is not the FDNY Fire Patrol...Fire Patrol is not an FDNY unit. The "list" should also include the several (sorry, I dont know the exact number) retired FDNY firefighters who also lost their lives. Any further deaths due to illnesses attributed to the WTC should (In my opinion) be added to the "list".

And I think Steeda83 has the "right" of it. Numbers don't really matter, only to remember....
