anyone have any information on how this incident played out. I tried to look for info in the news section but did not find any. Wondering what they determined the "Unknown Substance" to be.
A "Good" fire is not measured by how big it is, but by the fact that everyone is going home safe, and that we possibly learned something new about firefighting. Member:IACOJ

(KSDK) - St. Louis City firefighters and HAZMAT crews worked to clean up a chemical spill Friday night in north St. Louis City.

Crews were called around 8:45 to Interchem, located in the 3500 block of North 14th Street.

A 300 gallon vat of Hydrochloric acid (also known as muriatic acid) was accidentally left open. Approximately 60 to 70 gallons leaked out into a nearby alleyway. The spill was contained to a small area.

Crews blocked off an immediate area around the site, and evacuated three residences as a precaution. No injuries were reported.

Hydrochloric acid is used to remove calcium buildup in boilers and heat exchangers, in the neutralization of basic solutions, metals and general cleaning, for laboratory procedures, and for food processing.

The chemical is harmful it is inhaled or makes contact with skin.
