A replacement comfort pad and headband for a TL2 is about $12. So, if I have to replace that every few years, I can handle that. It is also probably not a bad idea anyhow. Ne headband and pad, means no nasty sweated up interior any more too.

In the meantime, i saw one at a local shop in Boston and i was not impressed at all. The interior looks and feels very cheap. It may hold up just fine, all i am saying is it LOOKS very flimsy. Almost like a toy. I know looks don't matter, i am just saying.

The other thing was how soft the shell was. The rear brim is felexible. You can press on the dome and feel the impact cap. And the leather was all rippled where it was bent. It has that look like it was bent back and forth too may times. But the helmet was brand new. For those of you who are used to Cairns leather helmets and how hard they are, this will be a surprise. I understand the impact cap is what offers the main protection, but i prefer my helmet to be solid.

Lastly, the weight. Yes, it's lighter then my N6A, but i was suprised at how it's not that much lighter. Ultimatley i am glad i saw it in person before i ordered one. I would have been very upset had i got it and saw what i saw at the shop.

But if they work for you, enjoy!
My feelings too except I had one and it was a piece of junk.

I would like to know if most people are ordering the detachable earflaps or the sewn-in earflaps. I find that the detachable has velcro tabs that are poorly positioned and are annoying if you wear the flaps without a balaclava.

I asked Jason the same thing, and came to the conclusion that there hasnt been a single time in my career that I would have needed to take the flaps off. Just tuck them up if they are getting in the way.

I would think if you were a Chief or Safety officer that had no chance of making entry, that might not be a bad idea since they won't likely be used anyhow. Would give you the option of putting them on when it is cold and taking them off in the summer. I don't see a real practical need for it.

    Just an update...

I got my helmet today from Jason with JB Rescue. All I have to say is AWESOME. I don't know where any opinions of low qaulity could possibly come from. Very well built and feels awesome on my head. Doesn't ride real high like the Cairns helmets do on me. I will work on getting some pictures up here soon.

Big thanks and two thumbs up to Jason!

Best of luck with the new lid. They must of redone the guts. I know many people complained about it. Maybe they listened.

I ordered mine with the ratchet, and it feels solid enough. Not as adjustable as my 1044, but it does the job just fine. There is a firm foam liner around the entire inside shell, which gives a very finished feel. I will try to snap some pictures of that as well.

And the pictures. Spent all morning today adjusting the impact liner so it fit on my head right, but now that it does, I love the way it feels. Posted a picture of the internals for those who were asking.

Hey there Brothers! It's been a while since I've been on here, but I wanted to give you all an update on my TL-2.

It's seen a lot of heat. The shield has shrunk, the Bourkes are melted and the lid is now nearly black instead of red.
Even after all that, the leather is still in great condition and it is more comfortable than ever to wear. I love the helmet as much now as I did when I first bought it...Maybe more!

    The Phenix TL-2 ROCKS!
I'll try to get a few pics of it and post 'em up as soon as I can!

What in specific were you not satisifed with? The only thing I wish the TL2 has that it doesnt is leather on the inside like the delux Cairns helmets do. Other than that I feel nothing that feels cheap or not on par with a qaulity helmet.

It started falling apart on me. One the the cheap plastic tags that hold the suspensions system broke. The most annoying part was the fore head pad became really loose and was moving up and down which was making my helmet go up and down on my head. I put velco on it, but it did not work.

Good luck with yours. They sure look nice.

I have had white on every helmet I have owned. Looks much better and doesnt fit in with everyone else.

I was thinking of swapping these to black though...thoughts?

Black gives it a real traditional look. I think that would look good. I think there a pic on this thread like that.
