Anyone care to make a prediction on when the dreaded DJs will start?
I was originally going to guess next Tuesday, but after seeing the small number of congressional calls and press releases today, I'm willing to bet it will be at least a week from Tuesday.
Any other educated guesses out there?
I'll roll on Nov 14 with you. Definitely NOT on the 7th!! I think the AFG stays pretty non-political, but the management is smart enough to know from whence they are funded!!

With the slow movement and number of announcements, I suspect not until the 28th. They may be heartless :D , but I don't see them ruining a Thanksgiving dinner.

After listening to the classic country station for many moons, I have this odd need in my head to write a song about Dear Johns, to the tune of Big John by Jimmy Dean.
I think I would have to agree with onebugle, November 28th after Thanksgiving. In previous years they have always had at least several thousand awards released prior to letting the other shoe drop. At this rate we will be lucky to see 1000 awards released with the first three rounds and that is pathetic. There is already so much discontent about this paltry pace for awrads this year that I do not see them risking further malcontent without having a substantial number of awards already announced. Normally I am very patient with government and their "aircarft carrier turning speed" but this year tops the cake! Why does this vision of that cartoon of the two vultures sitting there and the ballon saying "Patience hell, I'm gonna kill something!" keep popping into my head in high definition? I can't figure out if it is concerning the program this year or my deer stand calling out to me.:(
Whoa, Kurt, you're usually one of the voices of reason who encourage the rest of us to be patient and hang in there. If YOU are frustrated, then I know it must be pretty bad.
Ah, it is probably more becuase I have missed three trips to the woods this year already while awaiting a "decent round of awards" and I stayed behind anticipating the needs of my clients to be there when that happened. Of course, on the other hand, it might be these two pots of Starbucks expresso coursing through my veins this morning also. No matter," call of the wild" is just too strong to resist this weekend. I'm headed for the woods tomorrrow morning come hell or high water and the silence and solitude will chill me back out again I guess. :rolleyes:Quote:

Wow, its already Deer season down there?? I wish ours started that early.

Do it! Go for it, Big Bad Brian! I'm dying to read and hear what your fertile mind will undoubtedly come up with regarding this idea. Got a SAFER DJ for Recruitment here in Florida. Still keeping our fingers crossed for the AFG.
I just received a Dear John for SAFER 2006. Application was for all volunteer LOSAP program in New York.
Opened our DJ letter for SAFER this morning. All volunteer in PA. Similar to LOSAP, although we had it slightly tailored to have current members receive some smaller stipends now.
Try again later. We never give up. These programs have been very good to us.
Got our DJ this morning . We are a volunteer department in Pa. Like everyone else keeping our fingers crossed for the AFG. Holding my breath and checking 20 times a day.
Today was the day I predicted. Looks like it's not going to happen.
