FDNY Spartan

I came across this Spartan Scope which makes me curious if fdny has tried spartan for any other apparatus. I know one engine compnay had a Luverne that might have been on Spartan, but I am not sure. How is this holding up?

It is possible that the ( FDNY ) had this Spartan Scope built by Aerialscope when Seagrave was building 54 trucks after 9/11 ?

Evidentally this truck was sold by Aerialscope to NYC on 09-14-01 for immediate use. As reported in another forum, it was a Demo 2 weeks short of completeion on 9-10-01 and the Scope factory pushed it out for delivery to the City on 9-14-04. Went to L105 until a suitable replacement was built then to a slow Co. to finish out existance. As reported they wanted to limit shop time with a non-FDNY spec rig.

The Luverne is on a Spartan and I believe it was a donation after 9/11.

Bingo-This rig is now assigned to Ladder Co. 53. For anyone who doesn't know...Ladder Co. 53 is quartered on City Island off the Bronx and probably does less runs than just about anyone in these forums. The rig doesn't meet our specs and by putting it there they can limit the problems that would come up if it were assigned to L105. All they need to worry about now is flat spots on the bearings!

I gotta say, second to drinking with my FDNY friends, my favorite part of FDNY, that is, the part I'm most impressed with, is the apparatus division.

That being said - my department - DCFD - has 1 95' Seagrave Aerialscope downtown, and, while our shop leaves much to be desired, our specs are excellent. This truck is a shop queen. It's making 350-400 runs a month now, and can't seem to take the beating.

L53 had a measly 141 runs in 2005 (E70, their housemates, had 211). But hey, the food on City Island is damn good!

At one time it was all men who had worked in the South Bronx and Harlem during the war years and needed a place to relax for a change.

I vaguely recollect that the Spartan Scope was a rebuild of an older unit presumably Mack. Anyone hear such a thing about TL 105?

Tl 53 (ex TL 105) has a 1973 boom that served previosly on another fdny Tl before it was sold (I assume) to Claredon County South Carolina--then it ended up back w/ fdny as a demo purchase.

As I recall this was one of the last from Virginia or one of the first out of Wisconsin wasn't it SBrooks? A pretty smart fellow in that neck of the woods told us that DC and a couple others were going to have problems as they had the trucks from around the time of the "big move".
