Truck driver survives after grabbing 13,200-volt power line

    Staff Report
OSTEEN -- A garbage truck driver who grabbed an electrical wire that zapped him with 13,200 volts lived to talk about it.

Zachary McLeod, 22, of Daytona Beach drove the recycling truck into a power pole at 7:20 a.m. today on Collins Road west of S.R. 415, shearing the pole in two, officials said. When McLeod was placing safety cones to warn other drivers, he accidentally grabbed a dangling wire, severely shocking him.

Paramedics revived McLeod, using a defibrillator, said Trooper Kim Miller, Florida Highway Patrol spokeswoman.

"That probably saved him,'' Miller said.

McLeod, who works for Florida Recycling, was flown to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he reportedly is awake and talking, Miller said.

I knew a guy that got the auger of a feed delivery truck too close to some high-voltage lines. The things arced when it got about 8' from the lines. Literally blew him a new $@#hole. Lucky man. Same story, defib saved him.

I wonder if the police would have charged him after that.
