Hello everyone,
I'm starting a little online project called Peek-a-life. It is a personal project to get to know the lives and stories of as many different kinds of people as possible. To be the least intrusive as possible, I'm going to post the questions here and if you are interested in answering them, you can either e-mail me or post the answers on this forum.
I usually ask the following 5 questions, but you can choose to answer different questions you make up for yourself, or just go freestyle and talk about your experiences without following any type of format.
Question 1: How did you get started?
For example, did you always know you wanted to do this? How does a young person prepare for your career. When was your big break? etc.
Question 2: What's a typical day like at your job?
Or, if there is no typical day, you can just talk about what you did today.
Question 3: Describe a memorable bad day
Question 4: Describe a memorable bad day
Question 5: What does the future hold?
I like to open this up to everyone. So not just firefighters, but also any police officers or EMTs who are browsing this forum are welcom to participate.
For an example of what the interviews look like, here's my first interview with a young attorney. (That interview went kind of long, yours can be much shorter if you prefer it that way.)
Thanks for listening everyone. I appreciat your time and generosity.

At the risk of sparking another paid/volly debate, I feel I should point out....something like 3/4 of us are volunteers (if the Firehouse.com user ratio is comparable to the national ratio). Not every firefighter does this as a career.
Good luck with your project, sounds interesting.Chief Dwayne LeBlanc

"I have a dream. It's not a big dream, it's just a little dream. My dream — and I hope you don't find this too crazy — is that I would like the people of this community to feel that if, God forbid, there were a fire, calling the fire department would actually be a wise thing to do. You can't have people, if their houses are burning down, saying, 'Whatever you do, don't call the fire department!' That would be bad."
